Basse vallée de l’Ouémé
Basse vallée de l’Ouémé is part of the Tentative list of Benin in order to qualify for inclusion in the World Heritage List.
The Lower Ouémé Valley is a cultural landscape of lakeside villages. The traditional settlements of the Tofins and Ouémè have developed here after the people sought refuge from tribal wars and slave raids. The ecosystem relies on the interaction of marine and river water and is inhabited by the African manatee.
